Invest in a good quality water bottle to keep with you. By carrying a water bottle, you can ensure you stay properly hydrated while on campus. This is extremely important to do when you have a number of classes scheduled close to one another and do not have time to break for a meal. When you’re not thirsty, you can focus on your school work. Water fountains are usually available to keep your bottle full at all times.
Be realistic when you set your college class schedule, especially if you are working while attending. Do not schedule a class that will be challenging for you early in the day if you have a problem waking up in the morning. Know your internal body clock so you can make your schedule flow with it the best it can.
Make good use of the campus gym. There are many people to meet up with to walk with or workout with. You can make friends to go to the gym with, and broaden your social circle.
Try to fulfill no less than one general requirement class during the initial semester. If you have to take it, but aren’t interested in it, leave the hard classes for last. More than likely you will not want to still be a senior years from now, in a class of freshmen students.
It helps to stay connected with your instructors throughout the academic year. For starters, write down their office hours and location. You can also use your student email to contact them. When you have a relationship, they’ll be easier on you when you need help.
Take the school bus. Taking the bus to school is quick, easy and free in most college towns. This will also save you the hassle of having to find a non existent parking spot in the full campus lot. You won’t spend nearly as much on gas and you won’t have to purchase a parking pass. It’s environmentally friendly, too.
Learn about cooking and cleaning as these services are not provided at college. You alone are responsible for your diet, sleep and environment. Try to make a schedule that includes classes, study, recreation and caring for yourself properly. You can get ill from being too stressed or not eating healthy enough.
When you are traveling far from home for college, determine whether you should bring your vehicle or leave it home. Many larger cities have limited free parking areas. Also, if you have a car on campus, you will have to pay for regular maintenance as well as insurance and gas.
Know the campus security phone number. All universities have programs and resources in place to keep students safe, so familiarize yourself with the best methods to reach the police or security office. You may never need to use this number, but it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
